Putting skilled professionals in the spotlight
Skills Ontario is empowering youth to explore skilled trades & tech through new video series.
ONTARIO (March 21, 2022) - Skills Ontario has launched a twenty-part “Success Stories from Skilled Professionals” video series that features professionals in skilled trade and technology careers. The speakers discuss their journeys in their careers and advice to youth who may be interested in similar pathways.
As an organization that is dedicated to promoting skilled trade and technology careers to youth, Skills Ontario’s team ensured to include different career paths featured over the construction, industrial, motive power, service, and technology skilled sectors. Profiles include a cabinetmaker, a hairdresser, and architectural technologist, an automotive painter, a welder, a technical artist, a plumber, and more.
“My first introduction to Skills Ontario was in high school,” says Tiffany Floud, Metal Welder, Fabricator & Designer, and past competitor at the Skills Ontario Competition, in her video profile. “[Skills Ontario] was super critical in helping me gain confidence in my trade.” Tiffany’s story is one of many inspiring journeys throughout the video series.
“Skills Ontario recognizes the importance of mentorship and role models,” says Ian Howcroft, CEO of Skills Ontario. “We’re grateful to have advocates sharing their stories and we’re excited for youth to hear them. Skilled trades and technologies play a vital role in our success as a province, and it’s important to continue promoting these pathways to youth.
