Designation Mobility

Interprovincial Mobility

Your OACETT certification is mobile. You can retain your OACETT membership by continuing to pay your annual membership fees while you are residing and working outside of Ontario and outside of Canada.

The Ontario Labour Mobility Act, 2009 requires certifying and regulatory bodies such as OACETT to ensure that their certification practices are consistent with the principle of full labour mobility. We have transferability arrangements with all other Canadian jurisdictions and we recognize certified members from all other Canadian jurisdictions. If you are transferring from Ontario to another area of Canada, the new jurisdiction will assign you the title they use. If you are a certified member from another jurisdiction in Canada transferring to Ontario, you will be awarded the title used here in Ontario. Note that if you did not complete a Professional Practice Exam (PPE) as part of the certification process in the jurisdiction in which you were certified, you will be assigned the PPE to complete within six months upon transferring to Ontario.

To apply to transfer your certification to your new jurisdiction, complete this form and send it to the association to which you are transferring. Note that you may retain an out-of-province membership with us at OACETT at a reduced membership fee if you are also a member in another province. Click here for the current out-of-province membership rate.

For further information about interprovincial transferability, please contact: April Parnell at 416-621-9621, ext. 246 or aparnell@oacett.org

International Mobility

Unlike some organizations, OACETT members may retain their membership by continuing to pay the annual membership dues while outside the province/country. Annual membership dues invoices are routinely sent abroad each year.

When planning to work in another country, investigate what requirements are in place there to work as an engineering technology professional. OACETT can provide you with a letter of good standing and a description of our certification standards to assist in your application abroad.

For questions about working internationally, please contact:

Penny Connors at 416-621-9621 ext.235 or pconnors@oacett.org.
