Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC) is the official accrediting body of OACETT. Developed by Technology Professionals Canada (TPC), the national body representing OACETT and the provincial associations of Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, which together govern over 85% of registered technicians and technologists in Canada, TAC offers a world-class auditing experience using trained auditors and maintains an uncompromised degree of quality control and assurance, and rigorously applies national technology standards.
Using certified subject matter experts from OACETT and the other TPC provincial associations, TAC accredits engineering technology and applied science programs at post-secondary educational agencies in Ontario for the purpose of identifying whether they meet the profession's approved standards and criteria.
Although it is a voluntary process, colleges seek national accreditation as a means of having their engineering technology programs assessed by an independent third party, to know that their programs meet the requirements for certification by the provincial associations and that their programs are readily recognized across the country.
Applicants from programs not nationally accredited will be assessed for certification on an individual basis, and those applying for Certified Engineering Technologist will be required to complete a technology proposal and report.
As of January 1, 2014, OACETT no longer recognizes the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB) as its accrediting body; however, programs accredited by CTAB will be recognized until December 31, 2016 unless already expired – indicated with a closing date (i.e. 2004-2009).
If your transcript does not validate a complete and satisfactory technology report you will be required to write one before earning the C.E.T. designation, even if your program was nationally accredited.
