OACETTs Road Construction Contract Administration Certification and Designation program for OACETT members

The program requires three categories of personnel to obtain designations from OACETT. The three road construction contract administration designations are:

road construction contract administrator (rcca)

road construction senior inspector (rcsi)

road construction junior inspector (rcji)

All applicants for these new designations must meet OACETT's standards of certification and the standards established for the new designations.

OACETT awards road construction designations on the basis of experience and academics. Applicants must be OACETT members. If you are not, please apply to join OACETT at the same time as you apply for your road construction designation. You will use two different applications.

In the road construction application package you will find complete information and charts on the process and the fees.

If you are a two- or three-year graduate from a civil program, you are eligible to be certified as a road construction junior inspector, rcji.

If you are not a graduate of a civil program, you can still apply and the registration department will review your qualifications and design a program to help you achieve certification.

Courses are available through Consulting Engineers Ontario (CEO) and Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA)/Municipal Engineers Association (MEA).

Note: 1 contract year = 7 continuous months work experience.

Upon certification/designation, individuals receive an annual colour-coded membership card showing the category of OACETT certification and/or designation. This card may be used as proof of certification/designation at the job site as required.

Applications received before September 1, 2005

Graduate technicians and technologists must upgrade their qualifications to certified technician, applied science technologist or certified engineering technologist within three years of receiving a road construction designation, to maintain their designation.

Technical specialists must upgrade their qualifications to certified technician within six years of receiving a road construction designation to maintain their designation.

Applications received after September 1, 2005

Graduate technologists, technicians and the technical specialists who require only the PPE for certification must upgrade their qualifications to certified technician, applied science technologist or certified engineering technologist within three years of receiving a road construction designation to maintain their designation.

Graduate technologists, technicians and technical specialists can upgrade by writing the professional practice exam offered by OACETT four times a year.

Complete the road construction application, and submit a current job description signed by your supervisor, up-to-date resume, copies of certificates for OGRA and CEO courses taken, plus the work experience log. Note: one contract year equals seven continuous months of work experience in the road construction industry.
