Condition Assessment and Rehabilitation of Culverts

Municipalities and transportation agencies have to spend millions of dollars on costly repair and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure. Consequently, liabilities and insurance premiums are increased. This workshop will demonstrate how trenchless technologies can provide efficient and economical tools and techniques for pro-active inspection, repair/rehabilitation, or replacement of existing drainage infrastructure.

Ontario Building Code (OBC) – Part 8 On-Site Sewage Systems Exam Prep
November 25-29, 2019
Barrie, ON

Cost of learning event: $849.00 + HST: $110.37 = Total cost including HST: $959.37

This course deals with the 2012 Ontario Building Code (OBC) requirements for on-site Sewage Systems with design capacity of up to 10,000 litres per day. The OBC technical requirements for these systems are found primarily in Division B., Part 8 of the Code, but also include and refer to other portions of the OBC, the Building Code Act and Supplementary Standard SB6. This course is an introduction to the principles of on-site sewage systems and includes the following topics:
  • Requirements under the Building Code Act (BCA) as related to sewage systems
  • Site evaluations, test pits and percolation times (T-times)
  • System characteristics and daily design flows
  • Design and construction of Class 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 sewage systems
  • Inspection and review of Class 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 sewage systems
  • Operation and maintenance minimum requirements for existing systems, and
  • Occupational Health and Safety as related to sewage system inspection or enforcement
This 5-day Exam Prep course is designed to prepare the student for writing the MMAH On-site Sewage Systems qualification exam. It is scheduled for November 25-29, 2019.

Learning Objectives:
  • At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Understand the legal requirements under the BCA and OBC
  • Evaluate the site characteristics and determine the options available for the site
  • Understand the minimum design requirements for the five classes of on-site sewage systems
  • Understand the construction requirements for the various types of systems
  • Understand some of the health and safety requirements related to the construction of on-site sewage systems
  • Understand the basics of evaluating malfunctioning systems, remedial work and change of use for buildings connected to existing systems.

Jeffrey has over 40 years’ experience in building code interpretation and enforcement as a plans examiner, inspector, chief building official, building code consultant and instructor of building code courses. Jeff has extensive knowledge in all areas of the Ontario code and has helped develop new training courses in the Ontario Building Code and also the National Building Code for training across Canada.
Jeff is a member of OACETT, the OBOA and the OPIA.

Legal Process Qualification for Designers, Building Officials and RCA's (Exam Prep)

The Legal Process Qualification course is intended to assist Building Code practitioners, including building officials and designers in preparing to write the Designer, General, Chief Building Official or Registered Code Agency qualification examinations administered by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housings. Students gain a basic knowledge of the legal process related to building code administration, roles and responsibilities of all practitioners. Practitioners will learn how to find and obtain a better understanding of the requirements of the Building Code Act and the regulation that are applicable for writing the examination.

Participants are encouraged to complete all Chapters of the course. Some Chapters are intended for all code practitioners while others provide information for Chief Building Officials, aspiring CBO's, Inspectors who have the same powers and duties as the CBO in relation to sewage systems or plumbing, Inspectors who are Supervisors and Managers of Inspectors and Registered Code Agencies

Steve has over 30 years’ experience in building code interpretation and enforcement as a plans examiner, inspector, supervisor and manager.  He is also a part-time instructor of Building Code courses at a number of different community colleges in the greater Toronto area. He has co-authored a number of building code technical manuals including the text for this course. Steve is a member of OACETT and the OBOA.

This highly-interactive workshop will enable participants to understand foundational project management techniques and will allow the attendees to apply the tools and templates that will be introduced in this learning event.  Case studies, exercises and discussions will be industry-based, therefore professionals who work in the public sectors such as municipalities and townships, and the private sector such as engineering, and other organziations which support infrastructure, technology and natural resources, will be able to immediately use the content that wil lbe introduced in this workshop.  Lunch will be included.

Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps​ (offered by the Ministry of Labour)  FREE
This training introduces workers to the Occupational Health and Safety Act. It focuses on the health and safety rights and responsibilities of workers, supervisors, and employers. It also serves as a general introduction to workplace health and safety. Workers can use this free training program as one way to meet the minimum training required by the Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and Training regulation. The program can be completed using the workbook or the eLearning module.
