OACETT ran an extremely successful Annual General Meeting and Conference in Huntsville from June 3-5. With our highest attendance ever, the event brought together chapter representatives, government, academia and industry delegates. Among the attendees were OACETT’s strategic partners and representatives from our sister associations in Alberta and British Columbia, the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers, the Ontario Association of Architects, the Municipal Engineers Association, Professional Engineers of Ontario and the Canadian Standards Association.
Financial Report
Secretary-Treasurer and Chief Administrative Officer, Hillary Tedoldi reported that
the Association’s finances are in excellent shape after recovering almost all of the market value loss on long-term investments from 2007 and 2008.
“The year ended with a surplus of $555,703,” she reported. “In addition, the market value of the investment portfolio is over $2.4 million”.
The Association’s pension fund investments showed steady improvements due in part to increased employee contributions.
Tedoldi noted that membership increased to over 23,500 active members by the end of 2009 with 1,034 students and 1,088 regular members joining the association over the year. OACETT has also seen increased member retention and more associate members moving toward certification thanks to ongoing technology enhancements and streamlined processes.

By-Law 19
The membership voted on and unanimously approved the new By-law which replaces By-law 18. It is a more succinct and relevant document which separates policy documents from the main By-law document.

Carole and George Fletcher Foundation
The amount available for students has been increased from $350 to $1000. The criteria for eligibility remain the same and eight colleges per year are eligible to nominate students. OACETT has provided $10,000 as an incentive to match dollar for dollar personal contributions over $7000 for 2010 and chapter contributions.
Over $1000 was generously donated by delegates at this year’s AGM and the amount will be matched by head office.
Guest Speaker
